Trees were rare on a desert planet like Tatooine. Luke knew just looking after any greenery at all used precious water that couldn't always be spared.

Trees that did exist there were tough and hardy, growing in canyons.

Luke always had the secret wish though to see a tree with falling leaves in colours of crimson and bronze. Just like in the holovids he saw at friends places.

Loss and adventure take him from Tatooine to Yavin 4, a forest moon. He's delighted to see so many green trees, but other people take them for granted. Luke is wise enough to keep his mouth shut about it.

The rebels don't stay long enough on Yavin 4 and eventually end up on Hoth, a winter world of snow and ice. Luke hated the cold there so much. They eventually have to flee again, Luke carrying the dream of crimson and bronze leaves with him.

Poor Luke. Trees are a blessing, it's too bad he so rarely gets to enjoy them.

Love this! I hadn't thought about it before, the idea of Luke only ever knowing a desert landscape before leaving Tatooine. I love when fics can make me learn something new about a favorite character, so thank you! :)
