Summary: Was meeting Jim good luck or fate? Blair needs to know.

Blair Sandburg was working on files in the bullpen and his mind was wandering. Jim Ellison was in court all day and Blair was bored without his partner. Blair smiled to himself knowing that it was the luckiest day of his life when he met Jim. But was he that lucky, or was it fate that brought them together? That was a good question.

Fate, it would seem was an occurrence of events beyond Blair or Jim’s control. Almost like it was some type of supernatural power. It was as if it was destined to happen. That would be fate, but what about luck?

Luck, it would seem to fit also. It was Blair’s lucky day when he found out about Jim Ellison and his 5 enhanced senses. Blair lucked out again as he realized that Jim was at the end of his rope and it seems he would listen to Blair out of desperation. And listen he did. Jim was the strongest Sentinel that Blair even could have hoped to find. So, yes, Blair was fucking lucky and would never be able to thank the gods enough for their help.

Would it be luck, if there was help from a deity? Because Blair felt as though he did get help from someone. Blair knew that he didn’t find Jim on his own. It took a great deal happening in order to find him, help him and guide him. Was it Blair’s good fortune or fate? Blair knew he had to put more thought into it.

Luck, looks like it would be a good way to look at it, but Blair still wasn’t sure of that. Had the deities had a hand in it? Because if they did, it wouldn’t be luck. Then it would be more like fate. Yes, Blair liked to believe that he was indeed lucky, but finding a Sentinel and becoming his Guide really felt more like fate or kismet. If he claimed it was kismet, it would be because it was his destiny. Was it Jim’s destiny to find Blair? Maybe Blair needed to ask Jim questions.

For right now, Blair had thought about three different words for what their life had been. Blair needed much more thought put into it.

As if by luck, Jim walked in and sat down as his desk. “Hey Chief, you looked deep in thought. Everything okay?”

“Everything is fine. I’m trying to figure something out and need your assistance.”

“Sure, what’s up? Is it work related?”

“No, it’s personal,” Blair answered.

“I’ll try to help you, but you know I don’t do personal things that well.”

“You do too. If I asked you if us meeting for the first time, was luck, fate or kismet, what would you say?”

“I think it’s a toss-up between fate and luck. Kismet, I know nothing about,” Jim replied.

“Well, that’s not helping me. It’s either fate or luck. Which do you really believe is true?”

Jim thought a moment and said, “I think it’s fate. We were lucky to meet each other, but fate brought us together all the way. If you know what I mean.”

“Now, see, that was helpful. I believe it’s the two things too. You helped me a great deal and I’ll make it worth your while when I make an excellent dinner tonight.” Blair smiled as he went back to typing up a report that was almost done.

“What are you going to make me for dinner?” Jim wondered.

“Anything you’d like.”

“Wonderburger?”

“No, I’m cooking not running to Wonderburger.”

“I thought maybe my luck was shining on me tonight and I was getting my favorite meal.”

“If you had a choice between a steak or a hamburger, which would you choose?” Blair really did wonder this.

“Steak. But sometimes I’m in the mood for Wonderburger and nothing else sounds good.”

“You want me to pick up Wonderburger on the way home?” Blair asked, sweetly.

“Yeah, that would be awesome. See, I am lucky. That’s luck, not fate.”

“I know what it is, Jim. Now, help me get these damn papers filed so we can go home sometime tonight. I’ve only got two left; how many do you have?”

“I’ve got 5 left. I’m starting work on them right now…”

“Give me three of them and we’ll be done in no time at all.”

They continued typing up their reports and at 5:00, they were all finished.

“Now, Jim was it luck or fate getting our work all done.”

“Neither. We’re just that good.”

They're a cute couple. Sometimes, luck and fate amount to the same thing.
