[#213] Treasure (MCU)
Theme Prompt: #213 - Protection
Title: Treasure
Fandom: MCU
Rating/Warnings: N/A
Bonus: No
Word Count: 231 words
Summary: The Soldierhas a treasure, and he'll make sure it's protected.
There’s something special about having a secret.
The Soldier knows he must never tell anyone about it, something on the tip of his tongue every time he tries to answer honestly, instinctively obeying the orders imposed upon him. It isn’t that he hasn’t had secrets before. He doesn’t remember what those secrets were, but he just remembers enough to remember that he’d been punished for it, and that he hadn’t been able nor willing to hide anything for a long time thereafter.
But this isn’t the same, he doesn’t think. It isn’t something to hide, it is simply something that isn’t worth mentioning. It is like the dog he gave his scraps to, back in Romania, like the plant he’d tended to during his stint in Zambia. His handlers don’t care about those minute details, not when he hadn’t shown any hint of wanting to go back for them, and not since they’d ordered him to keep all non-mission relevant details out of his reports.
No, this isn’t a secret. But neither is it simply a detail that isn’t relevant to the mission. It’s something more than that, something infinitely more important for all that nothing is supposed to supplant the mission.
It’s a treasure. He is a treasure, and the Soldier doesn’t want to let him go. The Soldier must protect him from the forces that would tear them apart.
