Challenge 224: Guilt: 520 words
Theme Prompt: Guilt
Title: What I Had to Do
Fandom: The Sentinel TV
Rating/Warnings: Angst
Bonus: Yes
Word Count: 520
Summary: Blair realized there was only one thing left to do.
“Mom, I can’t believe you did this to Jim. That was my life. You gave my life away and in turn ruined Jim’s life. How could you do this?”
“I could easily do it, Blair. You deserve a best-selling novel after all your hard work. And so what if everyone knows about Jim? Why do you care?”
“He’s my friend and my life. You destroyed me, Mom. You never once thought about anyone else but yourself. I’m in shock and I already know that Jim will think I sold him out.”
“Blair, honey, it’s going to be all right. He doesn’t deserve to be happy after he took you away from your studies and your classes. I didn’t raise you to work with cops. You’re better than that.”
“My God, I left his name on it because I wasn’t done yet. You’ve ruined both of us. I will never forgive you.”
“Blair, you have always been so dramatic. Relax and come to the realization that from now on, people are going to know who you are and what you’re capable of. Congratulations, darling.”
“There is only one thing left to do. Stay away from me, Mom.”
Blair stood at a podium at the university and finished his press conference to the world. “ I want to apologize to Jim Ellison for trying to ruin his life. I wanted to write a best-seller, so I wrote a fictional story about Sentinel’s and put Jim in as the main character. I planned on changing the names of all in the book, but it got sent to Berkshire Publishing before I had a chance. I totally fictionalized the story and it’s not true. I’m sorry to the university for letting them down. But the one that will suffer the most is Jim Ellison and I can never repair the damage. Please know that this was never going to be published as a true to life novel. It was sent in without my permission. I plan to sue Berkshire Publishing and the Rainier University for their part in it. This never should have happened. Once again, I’m so sorry for the fabrications and misrepresentation of the police department. Good day.”
Naomi walked up to her son and said, “What do you think you’re doing? You’re destroying the university and the publishing company by saying you’re a fraud and a liar. How could you do that?”
“I did what I had to do…” Blair was so sad and now he had to find Jim to beg his forgiveness. Blair was sure that Jim would never trust him again. Blair had no idea that Jim had just watched his little speech. Both men were shocked by what was said.
Blair didn’t know what was going to happen now, but he had to do what he could do. And he did it. It was a great press conference. Even if it was a lie.
