[#233] LIVING IN THE DAYS (THE OTHERS (2001) )
Theme Prompt: Curse
Title: Living in the Days
Fandom: The Others (2001)
Ratings: PG-13
Bonus: No
Word Count: 222
Summary: Anne is happy the sunlight doesn't bother her anymore.
Once upon a time, sunlight was painful for Anne and her brother Nicholas. They lived in a house on the island of Jersey with their parents, who made sure they stayed inside during the day. It was a curse; they couldn't even walk outside the front door without being in pain. It was called Photo-sensitivity and she hated it.
Sometimes her parents had fought about it, one time she had heard Mummy say, 'It's certainly not from my side of the family!". Maybe that was why Daddy was eager to go away to war; he didn't want to be bothered by Mummy and children who weren't proper children.
At night when it was cool and dark, she and Nicholas could climb down from their upstairs bedroom window and be safely outside. Quietly, of course, so they didn't wake up Mummy. They could walk on the grass and she sometimes sneaked down to look out of their front gate.
Then the Bad Thing happened and the servants disappeared. New servants came, who explained they had worked at the house long ago. But their eyes glinted with secrets that were eventually revealed.
Now she can go outside and play during the day, sunlight only hurt when she and Nicholas were alive.
She can even walk down to the gate by herself in the sunshine.
