[#241] too much (The Legend of Zelda)
Theme Prompt: #241 - Stubbornness
Title: too much
Fandom: The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures (Akira Himekawa manga) - canon divergent
Warning/Rating: Scant spoilers for the manga in question. Also includes elements of Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity for fun :)
This is PG by the way.
Bonus: Yes
Word Count: 670
Summary: Zelda overworks herself attempting to awaken the Triforce piece within her, and it upsets her childhood friend.
-
The crossroads that stop me will be broken down.
She takes a few more steps forward, toward the Hylian shrine of Wisdom. As a royal, Zelda understands she has to become the head maiden of the seven maidens of the land. Copious training is required to receive a blessing from Nayru.
The darkness I see in the future shall not have Hyrule.
Zelda’s legs ache faintly as she recalls the visions she has begun to have. Faintly, she recalls that Link Mandragora, her dear friend, has been trying to talk to her more frequently. But she can smell it in the breeze, and see it in the ripples of the moat. Something terrible is about to happen in the Four Sword Sanctuary.
I will keep my friends and my father safe. I must do this as I am now, no matter what.
The water soaks her feet and the edges of her ceremonial training robe as she walks to the statue representing Nayru, the goddess of wisdom and law. Her eyes droop ever so slightly, her body sagging with exhaustion from her training.
For the sake of wisdom I pray to you, oh golden Nayru.. Please lend me your power so I may protect our home.
Zelda shuts her eyes to continue praying, but a dizziness comes over her and she stumbles. The teenage princess blinks once.. then twice.. The last sensation she has before she goes down is the cold water of Mount Lanayru, falling forwards onto her face.
–
Link paces around, occasionally adjusting his hat or pantomiming sword moves while he waits awkwardly outside the room of his dearest friend. The princess collapsed while training, or so he has been told.. Anger and worry boils his blood, and despite his best efforts, Impa still won’t let him inside.
The dreams about four nearly identical Links. Red, blue, purple, green, holding a sword he has never seen. A demon with one eye, swirling dark winds.
The vision has him freaked out almost as much as Zelda’s collapse, leaving him pacing around the hallway. Tea hasn’t aided him in calming down, nor has punching all the available pottery. He almost longs for his pan flute at home..
Impa, dressed in dark blue to hide the majority of her appearance, appears with her white hair and dark red-brown eyes. “She is awake once more, Mr. Mandragora.”
“Thank you,” Link says graciously, and he runs in to meet his friend. Zelda herself looks dazed, but aware enough to look around, her hair still wavy from having been braided.
“Link..? What happened?”
Link slams his hands down on the bed, his anger winning. “You stubborn heck!”
Zelda stares wide eyed at him, and the knight trainee glares at her, shaking his head.
“You hurt yourself, Zelda! I’m mad! You can’t push yourself so hard!”
“But I was.. I need to finish my training,” she insists, shaking as she attempts to sit up. “Hyrule depends on me..”
“Will you just listen to me, for once?!” Link sighs and gently takes one of Zelda’s arms, still slightly cold from Mount Lanayru’s waters. “No more of this stuff, Zelda! No more! Ms. Impa’s right, you’re gonna get sick!”
Zelda lowers her head sadly, her blue, wide eyes glistening and her ears seeming pale.
“I keep seeing it, Link.. These bad dreams. I have the feeling something is wrong. Which is why I must train.” She clasps her hands, with some trouble doing so. “I see a darkness in the future..”
Link frowns and crosses his arms. “You can’t do anything about it if you keep pushing yourself, alright? I don’t wanna see you get sick..”
“..I am aware,” Zelda squeaks, nodding. The princess takes one of Link’s hands, and she smiles slightly. “Yet I do feel better with you here. Thank you for caring about me. I know my limits with your perspective.”
“Yeah.. But something is bothering me..” he starts with, and the knight trainee begins to tell Zelda in detail about his recent dreams..

..But Link does try his best, since he cares about Zelda (who happens to be 75% of his impulse control in better times).
