[#249] Unexpected Drama (MCU)
Theme Prompt: 249 - Emergency
Title: Unexpected Drama
Fandom: Marvel Cinematic Universe
Bonus: Yes
Word Count: 514
Summary: Darcy did not sign up to be dealing with this kind of emergency. Except that she did, because she chose to intern for Jane.
“If you hadn’t touched him, we wouldn’t have this problem.”
Darcy could not believe the audacity, because really? Jane crashes into a weird man from the sky while running after a weird weather phenomena, and Darcy is the problem because she tried to find a pulse?
“If I hadn’t gone there, someone would be fucking dead.”
Because of you, she thought but didn’t say out loud. It was kind of unfair of her to think that because the guy really did come out of fucking nowhere, but Darcy still felt Jane deserved it for trying to put the blame on her.
“Don’t be dramatic-”
“I’m not being dramatic! You’re the one who’s not being dramatic enough!”
Darcy could already hear the sirens and silently cursed Jane, because she didn’t want to call any more terrible luck on her best boss and friend. How unfortunate then that Jane wasn’t aware of how much she was trying.
“Are those police sirens?” Jane asked, voice low so she wouldn’t be heard.
Darcy broke. “I don’t know Jane!” she shouted out, dropping the shovel to throw her hands in the air. She crouched to pick it up again almost immediately, because right now that shovel was the only familiar thing Darcy had, and she was one step away from a breakdown of some kind, and she just couldn’t deal with that right now.
She closed her eyes, hands clenched around the shovel, and took a deep deep breath, before letting it out as she turned to face Jane. “I don’t know, Jane,” she said, calmly. Or at least, she thought she was calm, but Jane’s stance and expression made her wonder if some of the manic energy she was feeling was leaking out into her face.
“We are not in our world right now, your portal landed us somewhere weird, the body we were going to bury came back to life just in time to transport us here and might have landed alive somewhere else for all we know. I don’t know if those are police sirens! They could be tsunami sirens, earthquakes sirens, tornado sirens, sorry-turns-out-everything-is-alright-actually sirens. I. Do. Not. Know!”
Darcy watched Jane step towards her tentatively and wondered what she was up to this time. She was too tired to wonder for long, overwhelmed by what had been a series of emergencies culminating in this dumbass trip, so she closed her eyes.
Soon after, she was engulfed in one of the most awkward hugs she’d ever gotten. Jane hadn’t bothered to push Darcy’s shovel away, so the handle of it was now pressing uncomfortably against her sternum, and Darcy’s arms were trapped between them both.
It… did help though. Jane’s hug was awkward, and her posture had her both cradling Darcy’s waist and nearly choking her with the elbow around her neck, but it was warm and kind, and Darcy felt herself calm down.
"I did not sign up for this kind of emergency," she still protested, because she had to.
Jane huffed into her neck. "You should have read your internship papers more thoroughly."
