Summary: Siffrin and Isabeau eat a snack under the stars (divider by cafekitsune)
Siffrin stretches, wiggles out of Isabeau's grasp, and jumps right out of bed.
"Sif?" Isabeau asks, an eye opening. "What do you think you’re doing?"
The first word out of Siffrin's mouth is inaudible- Isabeau's head hurts a little trying to understand it.
"What?" He asks.
"Midnight snack." They say. "Eating a snack under the stars."
Isabeau shoots straight up. "Can I...?"
"You want to stargaze with me?" Siffrin chuckles. "I mean..." He flusters.
"It'd be nice to have a moment like that with you that I can remember this time." Isabeau says, and Siffrin moves to sink into his cloak- unfortunately, he's in pajamas right now.
Siffrin is snacking on a leftover malanga fritter, while Isabeau took a cookie instead.
"The stars look wonderful..." Isabeau says. "Uh... can you tell me the gist of what I said during the loops? I don't want to ruin this moment by repeating myself..."
"You said something about constellations, and also... you..." Siffrin shrinks back. "Told me about your Change..."
Isabeau gives up on what he was going to say about seeing pictures in the stars. He takes a seat next to where Siffrin is sitting and thinks about what else he could say.
"... Sif, is it normal to have a midnight snack where you're from?" Isabeau asks. Come to think of it... Isabeau has no idea where Siffrin is from at all.
Siffrin nods. "It's a common way to clear your head- if you wake up stressed, then the stars above would... would..." Siffrin trails off, and Isabeau watches as a blank look fills his eye, before he snaps out of his daze. "... What were we talking about?"
Isabeau doesn't comment, just turns to look at the stars above and takes a bite out of his cookie.
"... Why are you acting like that? Did I say something weird?" Siffrin asks.
Isabeau swallows the bite with a lump in his throat. "No, it's not your fault, Siffrin, just-" He pauses. "...You got really spaced out there, and..."
Siffrin blinks. "I was talking about home, wasn't I?"
"... What happened there?" Isabeau asks.
"..." Siffrin sighs. "A wish." Tears grow in his eye. "... Isabeau, do you want to know why the King wanted to freeze Vanguarde?"
Isabeau didn't get much sleep that night, visions of a lost and forgotten Vanguarde haunting his mind. If freezing Vanguarde in time was the only way to save it from suffering the Island's fate, then... what did that mean for the future of Vanguarde?
