Challenge 254: UNEXPECTED SUCCESS

It wasn’t supposed to work. It was a one-in-a-million shot. But somehow, impossibly, it did. Maybe it was a plan that your characters only agreed to because all of the other options were worse. Maybe the plan was supposed to fail as part of a larger plan, or maybe it wasn’t supposed to but everybody expected it to fail anyway. Maybe it was literally, physically impossible. But it worked! Now what? Write a story about unexpected success. BONUS GOAL: “We’re about to achieve a tremendous victory we don’t want.” If your submission features this line, it will earn an extra point to be tallied in voting!
