Summary: That night in Harris’ office, the Liars have a different idea.

The mood was shifting. After an hour of cleaning and tidying up the dining room and kitchen, plus the other hour and a half of dancing and laughing, the energy the Liars had after that day was spreading all over the —surprisingly— comfortable sofas in Harris’ office.

“He’s too far gone” was the line that started this whole silence.

And it was Johnny who broke it. “What if… Harris died?”

“You heard the Moms,” Mirren complained, but buried herself even more between his arms. “He’s okay.”

“I don’t mean tonight,” Johnny explained. “I mean… soon.”

“You think that would make it all stop?” Gat wondered, out loud.

“It would make the Moms stop fighting, at least, I think,” Cady opined. “You weren’t here, but Harris said he’s changed his will. And they’re getting nothing.”

“So…we lose it too,” Mirren guessed.

“Not exactly.” Everyone looked at Cady.

“What?” Johnny asked her.

“I’ve seen the will.”

Gat’s face was a question, but it was Johnny who pushed her. “And?”

“There’s a name.”

“Whose?” Mirren was so curious she had started playing with the hems of the blanket.
“That’s not important. You know Beechwood would always belong to the Sinclair’s. Now it would belong to the Liars. Forever,” Cady said with confidence.

“Alright, so if we were to do this…” Johnny shifted on the sofa.

“Wait, guys. Are you seriously thinking of it?” Gat asked, alert, taking his time to look at each of the cousins.

“It’s not like we would get our hands dirty,” Mirren said, shrugging. She passed her drink to Johnny. “Many things can happen in this big house, and a million things can happen to the old man.”

“So what are you thinking?” Cady asked.

“Poison is the safest play,” Johnny said.

“Why?” Gat pushed, uncomfortable next to Cady.

“You’ve seen Harris do something else apart from drinking and eating this summer?” Johnny asked, irony in his voice.

“If we don’t count making our mothers’ lives hell and being a number one racist with no shame, then no,” Mirren chuckled.

“But isn’t that a little cliché ? I can name six books I’ve read with that same modus operandi. That I’ve read in this last year,” Cady manifested her concern.

“It won’t be a modus operandi if no one notices,” Mirren thought, looking at Johnny.

“And the Moms will be too busy looking for the will to ask for an autopsy,” her cousin matched her look.

“Harris can have a heart attack any time now, like Tipper did.”

“Again, isn’t it a bit cliché ?” Cady wondered.

“If it is, it’s because it works,” Johnny said with confidence, and the smile someone would have after finding the solution to a problem of a million years. And then took a sip from his glass.

“Let’s stop and think about it for a second,” Gat cut them. “Won’t your mothers be sad? They’ll be losing both their parents in the same summer.”

The room was quiet for a second until they all burst out laughing.

“They’ll be too busy trying to kill each other over this island,” Mirren said, taking the glass out of Johnny’s hand.

Cady sweetly grabbed Gat’s face with both hands, looking at him deeply. “I love that you’re the only one able to believe any of us can actually be saved at this point.”
