(#280) Mean Green - Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story
Theme Prompt: #280 - Trick or Treat
Title: Mean Green
Fandom: Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr's Journey (ft. Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, Little Shop of Horrors (1986)) - AU where Fawful doesn't explode during Bowser's Inside Story.

Author's Note: This is based in part on old Tumblr RP stuff - a friend of mine from the M&L RP space really likes LSoH and this is in part inspired by that stuff! Also, because I wanted to do something lighter given my Fan Flashworks thing is kinda sad.
(PATCH NOTES: Now y'all see why I do NOT post so close to a work shift. Thank god I noticed this before I had to clock in! Title has been fixed.
Summary: Almost a full year passes since Fawful's last villainous stunt, and while he is initially stumped on what to do the following Halloween, his first adoptive parent's ghost gives him a particular idea from past the stars and beyond the moon..

Fawful's first proper trick or treat session takes place over a year after he is adopted by Bowser, but it feels strangely about the same as when he had to live as a false person. The year before, he was wanted for crimes big and small, from petty theft to treason against his birth Kingdom, and all of it nearly killed him.
He's still got the scars of that year's events, mid-winter, to prove that fact as true.
Still, Fawful decides to take suggestions over the summer for what his costume is to be.. Iggy suggests Mothra, given Fawful's love for flare and for cloaks and motherly figures willing to fight - but he deems it too lofty, because of Iggy also suggesting he make the wings functional. Then Wendy suggests he attempt a cosplay - whatever that is - and compares both a two-piece suit from New Donk City and a dress from the city's mayor, both just about right for his relatively thin and tall figure. ...Tall for the Beanish teenager, anyhow. Fawful says no to the idea as well, mostly on the grounds of his odd speech clashing very loudly with the prim speech of the Addams Family he later looks up.. although, Morticia and Gomez do remind him fondly of Cackletta and Bowser at times, in their own ways.
No, ultimately, he takes Luigi's suggestion in the end, with Junior's full support, and selects something personal, something Cackletta maybe would like. Fawful ends up having to conduct a seance with Luigi to figure that out, and her ghost briefly appears in Luigi and Mario's tiny house in the middle of July, laughing at Luigi's reaction before hugging Fawful.
"So, you want to dress up as something I would like, is that so? I'll pick one you and I could attest I loved as a kid, before my house lost power.. Here's my old dream costume!"

Months later, the trick or treating begins - Fawful's primarily accompanying his younger adoptive siblings given the majority of his older siblings are unavailable, likely having been summoned to help with Bowser's current Halloween party. He's sickly nervous about the costume itself, its mechanical parts hidden under a green cloak this time. Iggy and Lemmy are behind him and giggling over inside jokes referencing past endeavors and costumes while dressed as Hammer Bros., and Junior is just outright scaring people in a large King Boo balloon costume, sticking out his tiny tongue. At last, Fawful locates the house he wants, on the outskirts of Toad Town.
Clearing his throat, he knocks three times, shushes his siblings once Larry arrives late in his Wiggler costume, and waits. A minute later, Mario appears, clearing having been coerced into a cat costume or maybe actually using a Super Bell considering he growls suspiciously like a true Blitty, and Fawful almost loses his nerve. (No, swallow down the chortles - you've got a scare to do!)
Activating a particular element of his costume, he begins to sing, trying to do so with his stomach and not let his voice get any higher.
"You don't know what you're messing with, you have no idea! You don't know what you're looking at, when you're looking here!" From his cloak pops out mechanical flower buds, unopened, and Mario's face goes pale while his siblings all begin giggling with excitement. Fawful, encouraged, puts on his best evil smirk, continuing the small bit. "You don't know what you're up against, no-no-way, no-how! You don't know what you're messing with, but I'm gonna tell you now!"
One by one, the four mechanical buds open like mouths, and his siblings join in as he intended, finishing the little bit when his collar pops open, making him appear like a flower.
Mario.. just looks like he's going to run away, dropping his candy bowl. Luigi appears behind his brother, in awe and not as nervous as Fawful had anticipated. "Oh wow.. It looks like it went really well, Fawful!"
Losing his evil smirk, Fawful laughs, grinning more dorkily instead.
"Yessing, I have pride for me and Iggy's work on this. Lemmy was helping with the coordination a little - especially since everyone's got different costumes. Trick or treat! I am being Audrey II!!"
Mario sighs and picks up the candy bowl, his cat ears lowering against his head while he signs with his spare hand.
[..I'll admit you got me good, you troublemakers. For your first real Halloween, that's pretty good. Are you really going to repeat this the whole night?]
"Mmm.. Maybe, maybe not," Fawful responds, winking at Luigi before drawing back to let his siblings get their pieces of candy, while his false buds go back to a closed state. "But I am thinking the Great Momletta was being right! Your face was being hilarious, fink-rat!"
[We've been over this! Stop calling me that,] Mario complains in sign language, looking thoroughly unamused at the entourage. Luigi shrugs and draws back, and Junior pipes up, raising a hand.
"Hey, Mario! Are ya gonna go to Dad's party? There's no evil .. this time!"
Mario shakes his head, his expression lightening from its irritated form.
[Sorry, I promised Lou I'd watch all the Friday the 13th movies after we got done handing out candy. Thanks, though. Happy Halloween.]
"Yeah, bye nerd!" Junior says with a grin, before the group turns on around and begins toward Toad Town again. Costumed up like this, Fawful notes the Toads notice nothing.. although, the older ones appear to be taking pictures, and he hums in amusement..
(I don't see fear.. just amazement. Hah.. just like Momletta said..)
