Summary: There are fleeting moments when Katniss could believe she was in a real forest.

Back home in District 12, Katniss had enjoyed sneaking off to the forest, but it was mainly for hunting purposes. She had to provide food for her family; her mother and her little sister. Meals weren't going to appear on the table by themselves.

She was a hunter and knew her place within the forest.

Now she's in this years Hunger Games as a tribute... competing with others in a deadly arena of the Capitol that's disguised as a forest. Sometimes she's able to be more than prey.

There are fleeting moments when Katniss could believe she's in a natural forest, but then she's forcefully reminded it's just a mirage.

The high pitched laughter of some of the other tributes that hunt her, their well-fed faces cruel with anticipation. 

The loud, echoing cannon fire that means another tribute has died. At the hands of others or through their own misfortune.

There were twenty four of them, but their numbers are rapidly dropping. Only one person can win.

But Katniss is determined to find a way to master this fake forest... find a way home to the real one. Home to her family.

Katniss is a hunter, after all.
