Summary: John Sheridan gave up a lot to take charge of Babylon 5. But he gained some things too.
Captain John Sheridan had enjoyed being in charge of the Earthforce ship Agamemnon; you were always on the move as you patrolled space far from home. Sometimes you could find anything. Maybe it could find you? Sitting still for too long made him impatient, restless. Time to get up and go, keep moving.
Sacrifices had to be made, though. Food was field rations, fresh food was rare or too expensive. Thanks to technology, showers were done without the need for actual water. That was reserved for drinking, mainly.
Sometimes John dreamed of having a hot shower, as long as he liked. A bath even, such decadence!
Now he was being assigned command of Babylon 5, a space station. Whether he liked it or not. Stuck behind a desk, forbidden to get up and go and punished if he did so. No more foreign ports of call with sparkling skies.
But there's some perks of the role. He can have a shower with actual hot water.
It's a silver lining. Maybe there will be more... he just has to be patient.
