[#292] Daydreaming of Paradise (Miami Vice TV)
Theme Prompt: #292 – daydreaming
Title: Daydreaming of Paradise
Fandom: Miami Vice (TV)
Rating/Warnings: PG-13
Bonus: Yes
Word Count: 676
Summary: When the daily grind of being a Miami Vice cop gets to be too much, Sonny escapes in his mind. Sometimes, though, the mind can be a tricky thing when one is half asleep…
Notes: Fluff, just pure (slightly spicy) fluff. And I was lucky enough to have been a repeat visitor to the location mentioned in this fic, back in the 1980s. It was paradise.
He's the kind of guy that would say
Hey baby, let's get away, let's go someplace, huh?
Where I don't care
He's the kind of guy that you give your everything
And trust your heart, share all of your love
'Til death do you part...
--Day Dreaming, Aretha Franklin
The hot Miami sun baked into Sonny Crockett’s bones as he lay on the deck of the St. Vitus Dance with his eyes closed. Nearby, he could hear Elvis grumbling for his dinner, but the temptation to lie there and daydream was too strong. Elvis could learn patience.
Sonny drifted away to his dream vacation, in -- of all places -- New York! He hadn’t known places like this existed until recently. The community of Cherry Grove on Fire Island was a place of fantasy come true, where they didn’t care that the lover on your arm was the same gender as you. He wasn’t much for the club scene that was such a big part of the experience, but he enjoyed watching Rico having fun. His partner didn’t often get the chance to cut loose and relax. Neither of them did. The job took everything.
In his mind’s eye, though, they had rented a great beach house in the Pines for an entire week, and he could indulge in sunbathing on the beach...without worrying about tan lines...and no one batted an eyelash. It was a new experience for the Vice cop who’d been a closeted bisexual his whole life, and whose main exposure to the gay community had been the unfavorable one he’d seen in the job.
Here, Sonny could enjoy water skiing, swimming, boating… stroll on the boardwalk hand in hand with Rico, without worrying about anyone seeing and recognizing them. They could steal kisses in between bites of fresh fish (for him, fresh veggies for Rico) at a restaurant overlooking the water while watching an amazing sunset from their patio table.
And lots of lovemaking, in their bedroom with the window open, the gentle summer breeze ruffling the gauze curtains and cooling their sweaty bodies as they joined together on clean, sweet-smelling sheets.
Sonny sighed.
God, it would be paradise.
If only… Sonny fought a frown as he began to surface from his nap, regretfully resigning himself to the reality of being back in Miami. At the same time, a shadow blocked the sun, and a single drop of cold water landed on his chest.
Sonny opened his eyes to see Rico Tubbs grinning down at him, water dripping off his wet body, gorgeously naked from his head to his toes.
Sonny’s grin spread to match his partner’s as he came fully awake to the reality that they really were on Fire Island on vacation. Being on his boat alone had been the dream. This was the reality he wished to never wake up from. This trip was exactly what they’d both needed to counteract the burnout from the daily grind of police work that was wearing them down.
“You shoulda come for a swim with me,” Rico told him. “The water’s great.”
“I have a better idea,” Sonny began, accepting the hand that pulled him to his feet and raking an appreciative gaze up and down the body so close. “Let’s go back to the house, where we have a private pool to swim in.”
“Private being the point?” Rico asked with a knowing smirk.
“Private enough,” Sonny responded, slipping his trunks back on while already anticipating the moment he could take them off again.
Rico’s fingers curled around his own as they made their way up the beach towards ‘home.’ "I never knew you had an exhibitionist streak,” he teased.
“Lotsa things you don’t know about me,” Sonny responded, then paused for a moment in thought. “Maybe lots of things I didn’t know about myself,” he admitted.
Rico smiled the sweet and loving smile that was for Sonny alone. “Let’s find out together.”
Sonny pulled Rico close and kissed him, tasting salt water and desire.
Just because he could.
