Summary: Jem is the mask Jerrica wears for her audience. For better and for worse.
Jerrica always looked like the-girl-next-door with her appearance and fair hair. She didn't really mind, as she was busy helping to run the foster home her family was responsible for.
When her father died, the foster home started running short on funds. With the hologram technology her father left her, she transformed her appearance into the glamorous Jem, the pop star who dazzles her audience.
She wants to be Jem? She touches her special earrings.
She wants to be Jerrica again? She touches her earrings and she's back to normal. She can slip out a back door and people don't look twice at her.
Jerrica can keep the two sides of her life separate and this is great. But sometimes she wonders if she went on a stage just as herself (glammed up of course), would the audience still be there? Would they still sing along and ask for her autograph after? It's still her voice after all.
"You never know!" she said encouragingly to her reflection in the mirror one time.
But as she stared silently at the mirror... maybe it was just wishful thinking on her part after all.
'Not glamorous at all," she hears that audience mutter in her imagination and walk away.
