[#298] AS IF I WAS NEVER THERE (VALDEMAR SERIES - MERCEDES LACKEY)
Theme Prompt: #298 - Disappearance
Title: as if I was never there
Fandom: Valdemar Series - Mercedes Lackey
Rating/Warnings: PG
Bonus: No
Word Count: 219
Summary: Even though Talia ran away, there was always a cost.
Talia had fled her home and angry family on her 13th birthday after refusing the demand to either get married or have a confined life within the Temple. Upset, she had curled up in her hiding place while she heard servants searching for her.
By some miracle, a horse-like Companion had found her and now she was riding fast and far away from everything she had ever known (and feared).
What would happen when the servants reported back to say there was no sign of her, that she had just disappeared as far as they could tell?
Perhaps the servants would be sent out again to search for Talia until they had found her. If found, she would have been punished severely.
But now it would be as if she had just disappeared, never to be seen again.
"Carried off by bandits, no doubt," Keldar would snap, her tone indicating that this was no less than a rebellious girl deserved. Bandits were always a real threat.
Later on, when she was a Herald and her family was notified of her whereabouts and new station in life, they had sent back a short message denying she was their daughter.
It was obvious they wanted to think of her as having truly disappeared the day she had fled, Talia thought sadly.
