Summary: Tims lost a lot recently. His Dad, His best friends Conner and Bart are dead, every one assumes Bruce is dead. The Robin Mantle has been taken from him and given to a brat. He copes in ways but then some of them start finding their way back.

Tim knows this isn’t his brightest moment. He’s been struck with the crowbar of fate over and over again. First his father: dead. Then his Best Friends Conner and Bart: dead. Bruce: everyone assumes he’s dead but Tim knows better. There isn’t a body. Bruce is still alive. Dick tells him he’s grieving and to give him time to let everything catch up with him. So he takes Robin away and gives it to some brat. Tim’s not forgiven Dick for this. Tim needs Robin to stay busy otherwise he does something like this.

He glares at the computer screen in the Robin’s Nest, he’s still in his Red Robin gear and it wasn’t that great of a patrol. The screen informs him that yet another of his attempts to clone Conner has ended in cellular degeneration. After an amount of time, the cells of the clone become unstable. He’s been trying to clone Conner for months and each time has ended in failure no matter what he does. It’s crushing him. It’s like losing Kon all over again.

It hurts and he has no one to talk to about it, they’ll make him stop. Tell him he can’t resurrect Conner, not like this. Dick will call him crazy; say that it was a good thing he took his Robin duties away from him. Jason, he’s not on speaking terms with, and probably never will be but if Jason didn’t shoot him first he’d throw him into Arkham in a heartbeat. Damian? No. One time talking to that kid was more than enough. Tim doesn’t have a death wish. Or at least he doesn’t think he does. Cassie, she joined that cult after Superboy had died in the battle, she had been there by his side in battle as he took on Superboy-Prime. He thinks she might understand the guilt or maybe the loneliness associated with losing Conner but he doesn’t trust her not to call him crazy. In the end, all he can do is clean out the tube and try again, and again, and again.

Eventually, he will get it right.

Eventually, Cassie finds out and the Robin’s Nest is destroyed, along with so many failed attempts at bringing Conner back. He doesn’t understand how she can just accept that he’s gone, that they can’t just bring him back. She makes him promise that he’ll stop. Because it wouldn’t be Kon he brings back it would be a shell.

So after that Tim takes the jet and goes in search of Bruce. If there is one thing that the Drake-Wayne last name can get him it’s that he can pretend to be out playing in Europe just because he wants to. He’s somewhere in Paris when he hears something he never thought he’d hear again.

Conner’s alive.

Tim jumps into Conner’s arms, giving him the tightest hug he can and Conner has to float down closer to the rooftops Tim had been on moments before. They hug and Tim cries and Tim just talks. He talks about everything how Bart was gone too, his Dad, how no one will believe him about Bruce not being dead. How he’d had the Robin mantel taken away from him. Cassie. The Clones. All of it and he’s surprised to hear the next words out of Conner’s mouth.

“I believe you.”

Those three words - even if Conner doesn’t mean them it means a lot to him. He feels relief knowing that Conner too thinks that Bruce is a life. And in the stupid alley with his cowl down, his hair a mess, Conner in that stupid t-shirt and jeans that he calls a costume. The same stupid costume Tim had missed so damn much since he had gone down against Superboy-Prime. Tim just clings to Conner. He shutters against the taller superhero and finally lets out everything he had been holding in for months.

“You’re gonna come back?” asks Conner. He floating a good foot or two above the air, Krypto right beside him. He’s grinning and for Tim it’s like staring straight at the sun. Bright, beautiful, and hard to look at, like if he stares at Kon for too long he’ll hurt. “We miss you with the Titans. It’s just not the same without you Boy Wonder, you’re my Robin.”

“You’re my Clone Boy,” he replies back grinning. He doesn’t care if it breaks the bat family aesthetic. His best friend is back and that’s all that matters to him. “I’ll come back, eventually. I’m just not there yet. I’m in a better place but -” He’s done a lot in the months that Conner was dead. And he’s surprised the Kon’s forgiven him. He’s figured out he loves Conner he just has to figure out what that means for him, for the Titans.

“I get it,” smiled Conner. “But hey, when you’re ready, come on over we all miss you.”

“Thanks Kon,” replies Tim.

“And hey, if you ever need me, just say my name, I’ll be listening.”

Tim smiled watching his best friend fly away, back to Smallville. He had his best friend back and he wanted nothing more than to just be with him in any way he possibly could. He put the cowl back over his head his hair would be a matted mess by the end of the night but he had things to do. The scream a few blocks away seemed promising. Time to kick some rouges ass.

Everyone needs their best friends at their side. I'm glad they managed to find each other again.

This is a great inside exploration of some of those comic-book changes that are so common! Poor Tim, it's not easy to have things shift so drastically. (Also, nice to see you here!)
