[#057] For Love and Loss Until the End (The Originals)
Theme Prompt: #057 - Martyr
Title: For Love and Loss Until the End
Fandom: The Originals
Rating/Warnings: PG-13 | SPOILERS for the series finale of The Originals
Bonus: Yes
Word Count: 548
Summary: Freya receives a tough request from her brother.
“I need your help. I can’t fight this forever.”
Freya looks up from her mother’s grimoire to her brother. Klaus is looking ragged, the power of the Hollow taking it’s toll as he tries to keep it contained. They’re not going to have much longer before the power consumes him, and it starts influencing the world around him. He’s going to have to end this quickly.
Freya looks up at him curiously, tipping her head to the side. “You look terrible.”
“Now isn’t the time, Freya.” He stumbles forward, bracing his hands against the back of one of the chairs. “How much time can you buy me?”
“To what end?” There are many answers to his question, and she can’t guarantee that she’ll be able to give him a good one. Can she buy him enough time to see Hope grow up, go to college, get married? No. Can she buy him a day, giving him the chance to say goodbye if she has the right tools?
Maybe.
Klaus closes his eyes, looking down at the floor as he adjusts his grip, before looking up at her again, eyes wet. “I will take whatever you can give me to allow me to say goodbye to my family.”
Her face softens, and she pushes up from her chair and goes over to meet him. “I can keep looking. If we have more time, maybe siphon it into your siblings again, I can find a real solution.”
He shakes his head. “You and I both know that that solution will only get us so far. We need to put an end to this now. Before Hope gets any more ideas in her head as to how to solve this herself.”
Freya nods, before placing her hand over his. “I’m still not ready to say goodbye.”
“I don’t think we ever will be,” Klaus gives her a small, rueful smile. “Why do you think we’ve put up with each other for a thousand years?”
She laughs, before leaning forward and pressing a kiss to his cheek. “At least you were here for my wedding.”
“I wouldn’t have missed it for the world,” he smiles, pressing a kiss to her forehead. “Finding you has been one of the better reveals our family has dealt with us over the years, Freya. I’m sorry we didn’t have more time.”
“Me too.” She then takes a deep breath, pulling back with a smile. “Find me Elijah. He can take some of the load until it’s time. That should at least give us time for one last family dinner.”
Klaus nods, before giving her hand a small squeeze. “No fast ones, sister. Just until it’s time.”
She nods, squeezing his hand in return. “I promise. No sneaky witch tricks.” As much as it pains her to say, she’s no longer the girl so desperate to save her family that she would do terrible things to keep them. “Go find Elijah.”
He leaves to do just that, closing the door behind him, and Freya exhales slowly, her brave face slowly crumbling. She’s not truly ready to say goodbye, but for her brother, he can fake it. They’ve spent so long trying to save their niece from a terrible fate – this time, they’re going to get it right.
