[#138] There Is Still Hope (Transformers Bay Movies / Current Times Crossover)

Theme Prompt:#138 - Leviathan
Title:There Is Still Hope
Fandom:Transformers Bay Movies / Current Time Crossover
Rating/Warnings:
T - For the war time setting
Bonus:Yes
Word Count: 1000
Summary:
An ongoing war, two submarines and the realization that life always finds a way to survive

When Wavecrasher picked up a moving object on his radar and evaluated the sounds he had picked up he silently wondered if his systems were working correctly. He had just picked up a sound pattern that belonged to a submarine of the Amphion-Class. But this was impossible, their service ended in 1974. The only reason this sound was saved in his sound recognition system was, that he was not the ordinary Akula-Class or Typhoon-Class as known by the NATO states submarine he was at first glance.

Silently Wavecrasher thanked the higher power of his humans that he was alone on patrol.

From the outside it wasn’t obvious that Deepdive was really a ‘she’ and that this pronounce wasn’t used because that was how humans referred to all naval vessels in general. Years of serving as museums submarine had brought all the gossips and news from around the world to her.

The world was spiraling towards another war, that was when she had taken matters in her own fins.

For the moment she didn’t cared that her well-kept secret would be revealed. The current events where just the beginning and the consequences for the rest of the world were already everywhere.

The two submarines pinged at each other while silently decreasing the distance between them. Deepdive had seen a lot but nothing prepared her for seeing the huge shadow appear in the short distance. This submarine was monstrous, double her size. Silently she prayed that she would never have to fight this beast in robot-mode. She knew about the weapon arsenal he was carrying and his radioactive heart.

They stopped, bow to bow. “Never thought that we would meet, Deepdive.” His voice was deep with a heavy Russian accent, he didn’t bothered with tuning his voice system. “You must be the infamous Decepticon known as Wavecrasher. I don’t know what you’re up to but I’ll give you and your leaders one warning: We keep an eye on your actions and if you and your fellow Decepticons appear, we will too.”

The calm yet threatening tone in Deepdive’s voice was something Wavecrasher hadn’t expected. This Autobot wasn’t joking. “This is a war fought by humans. Why should we interfere?” If he would have been in robot-mode Deepdive would have seen a crocked smile on his face.

Just a few Earth-weeks after their encounter in the Atlantic the situation had escalated and suddenly the war was back on Earth. It was fought in every element.

It came as no surprise that Wavecrasher returned to active war-service, who was a veteran among the boats.

Each of them had a battle-hardened crew on board, humans who knew how nerve-wrecking a submarine fight could be.

The day when the war ended was a day Deepdive would never forget for the rest of her existence. She stood with her crew on the shore and looked at what was left of the area. It was an unspecific part of Europe. From what the remaining Autobots told her via hologram message, these smoking ruins of burned down nature, blown up cities combined with the heart-breaking sign of fallen soldiers and civilians on both side along with the screams of the wounded and humans who had lost their loved ones broke the otherwise deafening silence where everywhere.

Deepdive had spent considerable time to track down where Wavecrasher was hiding, severely damaged and barely functional. Yet, he didn’t wanted to give up on his existence even he was aware that he was a war criminal. He would remain in his hide-out, trying to repair himself as good as possible and hope to get in touch with other Decepticons which were scattered across Earth.

Wavecrasher wasn’t surprised when he picked up Deepdive’s sound signature. He had known that the day would come when she would knock on the non-exsistant door of his hide-out. “Did you came to give me the final shot?” He greeted her with an unmoved expression on his face. One of his optics had been shattered, giving him an even more grim appearance. “And contaminate the area? Believe me, if you wouldn’t have a radioactive heart I would have already shot you down.” Deepdive looked at Wavecrasher with a pitiful expression. “If I would shot you, I would do you a favor. You deserve to suffer here for what you’ve done. I hope the weight of this burden will break you one day.”

She turned around, realizing that it was no use to continue the conversation. On her way back to the base she traveled over the ocean like any other ship: surfaced.

In the distant she saw the shadowy outlines of something that was floating on the surface. Deepdive send a sonar wave and measured the distance between the object and her. Someone she sensed that it wasn’t dangerous. When it came closer she saw that it was a fragment of land, covered with a few remaining plants.

She transformed and stepped on the fragment of the unknown landmass. It was probably from some far away southern country, judging from the plants. She didn’t dared to walk around too much and instead she sat down on the edge of the land mass, letting her optics wander over the wide ocean.

Suddenly something crossed her optic field. Deepdive blinked a few times, wondering what it was. Then she looked own on her thigh: a light blue butterfly had landed there, taking a break from flying.

Her expression softened. It was a good sign to see a life-form in a part of its natural habitat.

“Sometimes, life persists.” Deepdive murmured to herself while she looked at the butterfly. Sure, not all life had vanished from Earth but given the destruction and the consequences of the massive use of weapons and radioactivity in more secluded parts of the planet it was currently impossible to tell which life-forms would survive and which would vanish from the planet. All she knew was that the humans along with the Transformers would remain on Earth

AN: Might be a bit jumpy - had to cut down close to 3K words. First time I've published something with my OC Wavecrasher, who is in this oneshot the real submarine Dmitriy Donskoy. Just for your visualization: Deepdive (submarine) Wavecrasher (submarine) Deepdive (robot-mode). I took a lot of creative liberty with Deepdive here.

And thank you for reading.

Sad for the humans and for Deepdive, but life will hopefully prevail despite the war.

I hope you manage to write something happier for her.

Both those ideas sound like they would be sweet. I must admit I know nothing about any version of Transformers since I've never watched any of the animations or movies. There are so many fandoms I've never got around to exploring.

I see no reason not to mix and match different versions of the same fandom. Why not explore the possibilities? I grew up watching the Sean Connery and Roger Moore Bond movies, but I also read all the Bond novels in my teens and the differences between the two are quite startling. I love both though.

Exactly! I love my fandoms, and I just don't have enough room in my head or enough time to add more. I'll read other fandoms here, but I don't go looking for them elsewhere. I have to use my free time for the things I already enjoy.

I binge-watched Stargate SG-1 when I first got the DVDs. I bought the first 6 seasons and watched the lot in about a week. I don't regret it though *grins*

I haven't read that one, although I suspect it's one of the newer ones so that would be why. I bought the Ian Fleming books and a few others from a second hand shop over 40 years ago.

Oh, definitely. The movies and TV shows aren't bad, most of them anyway, but the books are infinitely better, although I did love the Dead Zone TV series.

I also try to make sure anything I write here is understandable by people who don't know the fandom. It might make people want to find out more.

So true. I wish I didn't need to sleep so I'd have more time for other things.

It was a good show, I've watched it many times since, but every time I finished an episode I wanted to know what happened next so I kept going.

Interesting look at human war from a robot perspective. I like the end with the butterfly, definitely a sign of hope for the future.
