[#158] At Skyfall (James Bond / Transformers Crossover)
Theme Prompt: #158 Vacation
Title: At Skyfall
Fandom: James Bond/Transformers Crossover
Rating/Warnings: Gen | Takes place before 'Skyfall'
Bonus: Yes
Word Count: 984
Summary: James and Makepeace miss the ferry and change vacation plans
AN: Easily one of the two best Bond movies and the movie that made me start to write for this fandom.
“Well, that did not go according to plan.” Makepeace commented dryly, while Bond dropped the suitcase and saw the ferry they should have been on leaving the harbor.
“We could have made it in time and you know it.” Bond replied annoyed.
“I’m still just a car and even I am limited by the rush hour.”
James was about to say anything but he knew that Makepeace was right but then Bond thought back to what had happened earlier that day.
“If I remember it right, it was you, who suggested that we should pay a visit to the car wash.” While he waited for an answer, he pulled out his cigarette case and lighter.
“We don’t often go elsewhere on vacation, so it’s just natural that I wanted to feel fresh and show off what a fine paint-job I have.” Makepeace regretted that he was in vehicle-mode, otherwise he would have given James one of these looks which always drove him mad.
“See, you have your fancy suits to impress people.”
Bond turned his head around and rolled his eyes at the way Makepeace had pronounced the word ‘people’.
“Can it be that there is someone jealous?” There had been times, when Bond would have regretted this remark but over the years he had learned that the implied message didn’t hurt Makepeace like it would have hurt a human.
Pretended to be hurt, Makepeace remarked
“My dear James, how can someone pay more attention to you, than to me, who’s an Aston Martin DBS in Quantum Silver. People should know the embodiment of ‘British Elegance’.”
As always Makepeace’s sass was showing, whenever he talked about his vehicle-mode. Bond could understand him, he had chosen a fine car brand and no matter what other great cars he had to use during his missions (intentionally or intentionally) he was always relieved, when he could drive an Aston Martin.
“I get what you mean Mr.’Embodiment Of British Elegance’, who isn’t even fully British to begin with.” Bond playfully teased him, patting his bonnet.
“I feel British and have spent more time here than you and your ancestors combined.”
Amused Bond shook his head, while once more gazing at the water.
‘Ancestors.’
Earth minutes passed before Bond cleaned his throat.
“Since we’ve missed the ferry and the car train as well, what about if we change our vacation plans and go to the Highlands?”
“Are you suggesting we spent our free time counting sheep?” Makepeace laughed as he imaged them in the Highlands, surrounded by a picturesque landscape and more sheep than humans.
“If that is what you want but there is a place I think you should see. A piece of the history of my ancestors.”
Makepeace’s interest was peaked, he was his partner since years but in the end he did only knew about him, what the blond spy told him.
While they were on their way to Scotland, Bond thanked fate that they had decided to book one of the earliest ferries, therefore they’d probably reach Edinburgh by early evening.
“It’s been a long time, since we’ve had a nice long road trip, sir.” James knew that whenever Makepeace used this formal title, that we was up to something.
“You mean one that didn’t turned into a car chase?”
“Exactly. I was wondering if we could decrease the travel time a bit.”
If Makepeace would be in robot-mode, he would’ve certainly winked at him.
“Just make sure we don’t get a speeding ticket”, Bond replied amused and with that remark, he gave Makepeace green light to increase his speed.
“You forget, I’m far more skilled than any human driver.”
It was a feeling of freedom to speed over the streets, whenever they were empty. In the end they decided to take a few short-cuts which weren’t on the usual direct route to the Highlands. They only stopped when it was absolutely necessary and it was when they’d reached Edinburgh that they had the first and only longer break.
The last part of the trip woke up a lot of emotions in Bond. It has been many years since he had last visited ‘Skyfall’.
The road leading to the building, which had been a constant part of his childhood, was still the same, the deer statues looked as majestic as always and ‘Skyfall’ was still of an indescribable architectural beauty. Yet, he couldn’t shake off the gloomy feeling he felt along with the strange feeling of being ‘home’.
“That’s where I’ve spent my childhood. Welcome to ‘Skyfall’, Makepeace.” Bond announced while he leaned back on the driver’s seat, his hands still of the steering wheel.
“A peaceful area to live.”
Makepeace sensed that Bond’s emotions were shaken up, it was the way he sat in the driver’s seat and leaned back, pressing himself deeper into the soft leather, the grip around his steering wheel, which was a tad too strong, especially when they weren’t driving.
He had learned to be quite in these moments and he knew from personal experience, that the past could be overwhelming when faced with something from it, be it a memory, an artifact, hearing a phase which was strongly connected to it or any other minor trigger.
Neither knew how much time had passed, when Bond broke the silence.
“I could tell you many stories but I fear they would bore you. But I can show you the area tomorrow.”
“It would be a pleasure, James.”
Bond smiled, as he pulled out his mobile phone to find out where he could find a probably overpriced room for the night.
“Ready for a last ride until we can both rest?” James gave Makepeace the address where they would head to.
Since Bond hadn’t given in his first impulse to walk over to ‘Skyfall’ they didn’t knew that someone had seen them. Someone who would have been delighted to see Bond again.

I have only seen the movies up to Skyfall. Maybe during my next vacation I will sit down and watch the ones I miss.
There is only one movie I can't sit through because it's utterly boring and that's Quantrum of Solace.
I thought this movie never ends and I still own it because otherwise the collection isn't complete.
