The traffic jam was already a couple of miles long. Not only was the construction side the reason, there had also been an accident by said construction side and as if that wasn’t worse enough, it had began to snow as well.

‘I see it coming. I can spend the nigh in my car.’

This prospect didn’t lifted Charlie’s mood. It had been a long working week for her and she wanted nothing more than laying on the couch either listen to music or watching whatever the television program had to offer. She was certain that she would sleep anyways shortly after laying down and would probably head to bed when she would wake up in the middle of the night.
Yet fate had a different end of the work day for her in store.

Some familiar tune was playing on the radio but she couldn’t have told the name of the song or the artist. She leaned back on the driver’s seat, trying to find a comfortable position to sit.

Time passed slowly and despite being tired boredom took over her.
“I’ll hope we can head home soon.”
Seconds later it dawned on her, that she wouldn’t receive an answer, not from the car she currently owned. That was just an ordinary car, still a fine car but just a normal car.

“Where are you?” She murmured with a heavy heart.
How many times had she asked this question either out loud or in her head? Countless times and the painful truth was, that she would never get an answer to it.
Since she had to said farewell to Bumblebee, there had been this empty spot within her heart.

The ghost of a smile appeared on her face, when she thought back to night when she had discovered that her birthday present wasn’t an ordinary VW beetle. Over time she had discovered that for an unknown reason she felt strangely drawn to Bumblebee. It had took her a lot of courage to give him some hints at what she felt for him.

Charlie laughed softly when she remembered the awkward conversion, which had also been the hardest she ever had with Bumblebee. Some of the song fragments would stay in her mind forever and she was glad that most of them weren’t on the local radio station as frequently as they used to be.

From far away the voice of the radio announcer informed her about the current time, the weather and that it was time for the bi-hourly news. She glanced at her wrist watch. That was the fifth time she was hearing the same news. Silently she prayed that the side of the accident would soon be cleared and she was only faced with a construction side which kept her away from home.

She gazed out of the window, the snow fall wasn’t as heavy as expected maybe it would soon stop.

If only Bumblebee would be with her, than she would have had company to talk to and she would feel more much at ease.
‘How would he react to snow?’ Charlie wondered and tried to image a possible scenario.

Around an hour later the side of the accident was cleared and she could finally continue her way home. It wasn’t an easy ride, she was dog-tired and subconsciously she reminded herself that she had to stay awake no matter the cost. Her car couldn’t find the way back home on its own.
When she could finally crawl under the blanket suddenly all the tiredness from the day was washed away. Once more on this day she asked herself where Bumblebee was and what he was doing. Did he thought back to their time now and then?

Charlie knew that she wouldn’t be able to fall asleep soon, so she allowed herself to re-visit the past in her memories.
She skipped the awkward conversation, instead she thought of how safe she had felt whenever she had been close to Bumblebee, no matter what form he was in.

She didn’t knew when she had drifted into a light sleep but suddenly she woke up and looked around in the darkness of the room. Her eyes wandered to the window and disappointment was visible on her face.
There hadn’t been a slight knock on her window and no bright blue optics were peering into her room, watching her sleep.

“I miss you.”

She had decided that she should cheer herself up, even it would be only temporary.

Suddenly she found herself sitting on the floor of the garage accompanied by Bumblebee who looked at her interested but at the same time confused.
“It won’t be the same as if you were a human but … that’s okay. We are different than the rest of the world.”
A sound which resembles laughing came from Bumblebee who hesitatingly held out his servo, patiently waiting for her to get up and take a seat in his servo.

Charlie shook her head. No, as wonderful as this moment had been, tonight it would hurt more than ever to think back to it.

“It’s just a memory.” Her voice was barely audible, yet she had her emotions under control. She was sad but tonight she wouldn’t let her emotions overwhelm her. The memories which were connected to Bumblebee should bring her nothing but happiness. Something which was easier said than be done since she still loved him and cursed fate for never giving them a chance to find out if it would have worked out between them.

Nicely written and bittersweet. I liked that movie.
