Fandom: Original
Rating/Warnings: PG-13
Bonus: Yes
Word Count: 642
Summary: Olivia and Tyler’s vacation hits a speed bump.

Olivia has been planning this excursion for months.

Tyler’s never seen someone put so much thought into a vacation. Most partners he’s had in the past just want to go to a fancy resort and relax, and throw a fit as soon as he suggests they go do something other than sit by the pool and drink or go clubbing. He’s learned, as a result, not to ask and to just do what he wants to do, but he doesn’t think that makes for a very good vacation together.

Olivia, however, is the total opposite. He comes home one night, after they decide to plan the trip, to find her attacking her plans for it like she would one of our work presentations. Curling up on the couch with him after work, she’ll open tab after tab, sorting through each one to gauge his interest. She clearly wants him to plan with her, which is a pleasant change of pace, but he says that he’s good with wherever she wants to go, as long as they are doing it together.

At first, it’s great. They go hiking on nearby mountains, swimming on the beaches. They even take a few easier days where they peruse a museum, but it’s so nice to be doing something with someone. It’s probably the best romantic vacation he’s ever had.

Until he wakes up one morning feeling … off.

At first he tries to push through, but before long, it’s very clear that something isn’t right. Olivia insists on taking him to the hospital, and sits with him every step of the way, especially after the doctors have declared it food poisoning. He leans back against the pillows as they leave the room, before looking back at her tentatively, trying to gauge how calm she’s going to be about this. If experience is anything to go by, he’s expecting a meltdown of epic proportions. But Olivia seems chill. Level-headed, almost.

“Well,” he begins hesitantly, “that did not go according to plan.”

“No, it didn’t,” she shrugs. “But it is what it is.”

“That’s it?” he blinks at her in surprise, and she looks at him with a laugh.

“What’d you expect me to say?”

“I expected you to be upset, honestly.”

“Well, I’m not thrilled that my boyfriend has food poisoning, but I don’t think it’s anything to throw a tantrum over.”

“But you spent so much time planning this vacation.”

“…And?”

“You’re not upset that you won’t get to do everything you planned?”

“No?” She tips her head to the side. “I’m on vacation. That kind of stress is something I reserve for work.”

“Right.”

“And it’s not like you intentionally gave yourself food poisoning in order to ruin my vacation.”

“Definitely not.”

“So I’m fine,” she smiles softly. “I just want you to get better. And if we need to take it easy for the rest of the week, we can do that. The great thing about this being a place you can visit is that we can always come back another time.”

“Okay,” he sighs, relaxing more on the hospital bed next to her. “I’m sorry if I was being weird, I just—haven’t been on a vacation where when things hadn’t gone according to their plan, they didn’t throw a fit.”

Olivia nods slowly. “Well, present company excluded, you have had some terrible taste in women.”

“Nice. Like the way you excluded yourself from that group.”

“Well, last I checked, I am pretty awesome.”

Tyler laughs, before giving her had a squeeze. “Can’t disagree with that.”

Olivia nods, before leaning forward and pressing a kiss to the top of his head. “Visiting hours are almost up, so I’m going to head back to the resort. But I’ll be back to check on you in the morning, okay?”

“Okay. Love you.”

“Love you too.”
