[#164] I've Made This Whole World Shine for You (Legacies)
Theme Prompt: #164—Rescue
Title: I’ve Made This Whole World Shine for You
Fandom: Legacies
Rating/Warnings: (Language, violence, mature content, spoilers?)
Bonus: Yes
Word Count: 709
Summary: Hope gets lost in the woods and her friends come to her aid.
Even almighty tribrids get into trouble every once in a while.
Despite her many capabilities, Hope does not have a magical internal compass that will tell her how to get wherever she wants to go, and this far into the woods, her phone is all but useless due to lack of signal. Add to the fact that she missed one of the clear signs of a rather steep drop off, and that’s how she’s come to find herself in a rather steep ditch, with few handholds to pull herself up and out.
She’s been here for a few hours now, trying to remember the wording for the levitation spell, but it’s starting to get cold. Her hands are beginning to shake with the effort, which means proper forms for her spell gestures isn’t really happening.
“Should have been more careful,” Hope mutters, before curling in on herself a bit more to try and conserve heat. Worst comes to worst, she could shift into her wolf form if she needs to, but her friends might not recognize her as easily that way. Because her friends are coming for her. She has to believe that her friends are—
The dirt shifts above her, some of it crumbling down to where she is, and when she looks up, a very familiar curly head is hovering over her, serious expression on his face as he extends a hand.
“Come with me if you want to live.” Landon’s only able to maintain that serious expression for a moment, before his face splits into a wide grin. “I’ve always wanted to say that.”
She laughs, before moving to reach for his hand to take that help up. “How did you find me?”
“Twins did a locator spell. What are you doing out here in the woods?”
“Needed to get some space. Didn’t realize how much space I was getting.”
Landon grunts softly as he goes to heave her up off the ground and she uses that leverage to swing herself up onto the main level. “Well, that will teach you to wander off into strange woods when we’re on a far from school monster hunting trip.”
Hope laughs, before nodding. “Which way is back?”
Landon frowns as he looks up and starts to spin around. “It’s uh … that way?”
“You sound very confident.”
“I am. Extremely. But I’m also going to call Lizzie just to make sure.” Landon fishes out his phone, and squints at the screen. “Or I would, if I had any service.”
“You see the problem I ran into.”
“I do.” Landon takes a deep breath. “Okay, well, I’m pretty sure it was this way, and worst comes to worse we’ll run into Jed or Raf on the way back and they’ll be able to sniff us home.”
“As long as it doesn’t end with me further stuck in a ditch, I will take it.”
* * * * *
It takes them almost a half-hour, but eventually they do find where the twins set up base camp. Josie and Lizzie had already lit a fire, which is nice, but what Hope chooses to squint at is the tents.
“Is Project Find Hope turning into a camping trip now?”
Lizzie winces. “We didn’t want to worry any of the adults, so we told them that we were planning to go camping and you went ahead to pick out a spot.”
Hope raises an eyebrow. “But you hate camping. You told me that it was a medieval torture practice and glamping was a much more civilized alternative.”
Lizzie makes an even bigger face. “I stand by that statement, which makes you so lucky that your my best friend.”
Hope laughs, before moving to settle onto one of the logs set up around the fire. “So when are they expecting us back?”
“Tomorrow morning. Any longer than that would have strained credulity,” Josie points out. “But this should be fun. I brought all the ingredients we need for s’mores, and we can just get some quality Super Squad time.”
“How can I say no to that,” Hope nods, and the crew of them settles in for a long night of Lizzie semi-complaining in the woods.
Sometimes, it’s not all that bad having friends.
