The three were walking through the market when snow started to fall.

Aymeric looked at his arm as he noticed the first snowflake landing against blue wool. "So here we are," he says, and he couldn't help but feel relieved; after the streaks of fire in the sky and the horrors of the fall of Dalamud, at least snow was familiar. "Winter in Coerthas once again."

Estinien shook his head. "We'd best get inside." he said. "The sky is dark; the snowfall will be heavy."

"Wait."

Aymeric turned, seeing Haurchefant looking up at the sky, holding one hand up beside him. His brow was furrowed as the wind howled. The vouchers and delivery orders were clutched in the other hand - they had come here with him this time, as there was much that his father's house needed after the death of his wife. Haurchefant might have been relieved that his stepmother was dead - Aymeric did not know as much what had happened between them as some others but he knew that she had not treated him kindly. But he would not forsake his father.

"Aye, I know how much you enjoy such weather," Estinien said, the half-smile on his face betraying his humor. "But I, for one, would prefer to stay dry this day."

"No... 'tis not that," the Knight said, and he frowned - an expression that always felt strange on his face. "Something strange is in the air... the wind is too fierce for the time of year. This snow seems... different." He glanced over at Aymeric. "Do you feel it?"

"I..." Aymeric looked around again. All around him he could see the first dusting of snow on the stones and benches and counters. Merchants were already packing their wares away, and he could hear the buzz of discontent all around him. Strange, how the first snow always felt like a surprise even though they knew that it would come every year. "I do not," he admitted, looking around. The wind was cold, yes, but he could not remember if it had been worse the previous year, in truth.

"Mm." Haurchefant lowered his hand and shook his head. "I suppose my mind is bound to go to sour places in such days," he said, giving them both a smile. "I would return with you, but my father will be waiting for me. But I would like to see you both tonight if time permits. If the snow is as heavy as you fear, Estinien, we will likely have the opportunity."

"Let us hope," Estinien answered. "They'll have me training with the rest of the Dragoons tomorrow, but not til then."

Aymeric smiled as Haurchefant walked between them, and put one hand on his back reassuringly. "I hope I can offer my assistance in the next few days," he said quietly. "Please tell the Count he is in our thoughts."

"After all the items we've carried, I'm sure he knows," Estinien said.

Aymeric gave him an amused look. "True, but I am sure the reminder will be appreciated all the same."

Haurchefant nodded slowly, looking between them. "Thank you, truly," he said. "I am sure that will ease his mind. I will see you again soon - hopefully somewhere warm and dry!"

The three walked away from the market for a short time, enjoying each other's company for as long as they could before going their separate ways. They would not know for some days that Haurchefant's instincts had been right.
