Summary: Seo Yutae just has a cold. Or rather no, he's starting to get a cold. Unfortunately, his members overreact.
His nose was congested. Or rather no, it wasn’t congested yet, but Seo Yutae could feel it coming. Just a little blockage at the back of his throat, in the passage that led up to his nose. Just annoying enough that he couldn’t quite ignore it, yet not visible enough for anyone else to notice. Which was for the better honestly, Seo Yutae knew all too well what kind of comedians he was surrounded by.
“Drink more Leada! At your age you need to pay attention!”
“Are you calling hyung old?? He’s still young, he just likes old people drinks!”
“You’re the one calling Leada old! I just know he’s careful about his health.”
Seo Yutae didn’t close his eyes as dumb and dumber started their comedy routine in front of him. He wasn’t looking at them either though. There was a dull throb behind his eyeballs that was already bothering him, and he knew actually keeping up with the two’s antics would only worsen it. Thermos steaming under his nose like the steam would somehow unblock it (it didn’t), he stared inward, wondering why he’d wanted those chicks in his team as a headache began to build behind his temples.
Each blink felt like it was becoming slower and Seo Yutae sighed deeply as he took another gulp.
A hand pressed against his shoulder and Seo Yutae turned his head to see Woo Kangwon’s reliable face look at him with worry. He didn’t say anything, simply asking the question with his eyes, but Seo Yutae felt warmed up nonetheless.
“I’m fine, just a bit cold,” he reassured.
“That’s because you’re too thin. And yet you keep calling us chicks.”
“I don’t want to hear that from you, Lee Hwayoung.”
Seo Yutae would have liked to scold Lee Hwayoung a bit more, but he caught a movement from the corner of his eye and stared at Baek Kiryang in disbelief.
“Kiryang, keep your shirt on, you’re gonna catch a cold.” Somehow, the way he put his vest back on made Seo Yutae feel guilty, like he had done something wrong even though he was just thinking about his wellbeing.
“You should eat more like Yu-chan, Leada. Is he taking your food? Is that why you can’t eat?”
Seo Yutae sighed, and searched for his only reliable chick in hopes of finding some sanity. Lee Danbi resurged just in the nick of time with a warm bun and Seo Yutae took it with some relief. The first bite of the soft dough made him relax entirely and he smiled as he patted Lee Danbi’s head.
“I think Hyung is dying.”
Seo Yutae opened his eyes, the lids feeling heavy. It took a few blinks for his gaze to focus, and he faintly heard some chaos happening behind him. He sniffed, and it sucked because the action didn’t bring any relief, considering his nose was just itching, not actually leaking. A similar itch began at the back of his throat, and Seo Yutae took a deep breath, eyes closing as he sneezed in the crook of his sleeve. He was glad he managed to close his mouth in time, because he felt a glob of phlegm caught behind his teeth and he couldn’t guess at the members’ reactions if they’d seen it. As it was, he shouldn’t have worried.
“We need to call the hospital! Leada is dying!”
Of course those idiots would overreact.
“Oh, please, it’s not fatal,” Seo Yutae sighed, taking out a tissue to sneeze into. It didn’t help, again, but he still folded it up like something had gone into it.
Only quick reflexes enabled Seo Yutae to avoid the hand that attempted to snatch it from him, and he glared at a frowning face of the body it was attached to.
“What are you doing?” he asked Lee Hwayoung, avoiding further attempts to steal the tissue from him. What had gone into his head? It was just a tissue.
For once, Do Yuda was the one to clarify it. He gasped, and his shout was far too loud. “Oh my- Is there blood in there? Hyung, are you really dying?”
Pandemonium erupted anew, and now Seo Yutae had everyone trying to get over to him. From reliable Woo Kangwon putting a wet towel over his head to that annoying Lee Hwayoung still trying to steal his tissue, this time with Zen’s help (which was more of a hindrance than a help), and he even felt another sneeze coming. It was impossible to hold it in and after a few tense seconds, a loud sneeze erupted from his chest, nearly pulling his lungs out with it.
A loud silence followed. And Seo Yutae finally got a moment to talk.
“Now,” he said, and his voice must have been frigid because everyone straightened up and stood to attention. “All of you settle down and stop this nonsense.”
He glared at each of them in turn even the youngest chick Lee Danbi who knew better and hadn’t intervened for his own amusement, only stopping on Lee Hwayoung because he couldn’t believe what he was seeing.
“Lee Hwayoung, put the phone down or so help me if you make that phonecall!”
