Challenge 042: WHITE NOISE |
(noun) 1a. a heterogeneous mixture of sound waves extending over a wide frequency range 1b. a constant background noise; especially one that drowns out other sounds / 2. meaningless or distracting commotion, hubbub, or chatter It might seem contrary to some, but silence can be unbearably loud. In its place, most people prefer an unobtrusive background static, sometimes called white noise (or brown, or pink, there are apparently different names for different frequencies?) Sometimes this is a mechanical sound, sometimes the lull of people, sometimes the calm melody of nature. Is it reassuring to a character, or intimidating? Does it put their mind at ease, or does it make them restless? Write a story where a character experiences white (or any colour) noise, and their reaction to it.
