(noun; phrase) 1. 1. An indication of something important or calamitous about to occur; an omen. 2. Prophetic or threatening significance: "signs full of portent". 3. A phenomenon that serves as a sign or warning of some future good or evil
Superstitions are often as old as the cultures they permeate, and often reinforcing those beliefs are phenomena both natural and manmade, inexplicable and debunked. From something totally innocuous as a flower that doesn't turn toward sunlight, to the grand majesty of a waterfall running dry. Celestial events are always a popular theme! Write a story about characters experiencing something that they, or others, take as an omen (good or bad, whichever you want).
If your submission contains someone invoking a higher power (does not have to be religious), that entry will earn an extra point to be tallied during voting!
