Challenge 181:
BROKEN PROMISE

We all like to think we’ll keep our word no matter what, but sometimes that doesn’t happen. Maybe it truly was an accident – circumstances conspired to make it impossible to attend the party or the dinner or the job interview. Maybe it was carelessness or forgetfulness – not an intentional choice to break a promise, but a mistake all the same. Or maybe it was deliberate, because for whatever reason, keeping the promise was less important than something else.

How do your characters react to broken promises? Do they break them themselves? Did someone else break a promise to them? Would they ever do it on purpose, and what would it take to push them that far?

Write a story about a broken promise.

BONUS GOAL: “You gave your word.”

If your submission features this line, it will earn an extra point to be tallied in voting!

Challenge ends Monday, June 19 at 9:00PM EST.

Post submissions as new entries using the template in the profile.
