What do high school locker rooms, gossipy workplaces, and intergalactic politics have in common? Rumors. Usually it’s hard to tell where they came from, or how much accuracy there is to them, but they’re there, traded through whispers and hovering just under the surface of conversations. Some rumors are absolutely true and just passed around through back channels; others are completely fabricated, but travel faster than the speed of sound, and many of them fall somewhere in between. What do your characters think about rumors? Are they usually the ones spreading them, or the subject of the rumors? Do they avoid the whole thing, participate occasionally when it’s useful, or get right in the middle of the rumor mill at all times? Write a story about a rumor. If your submission features silver (in any form, not just the idiom), it will earn an extra point to be tallied in voting! |
